Look elsewhere if…
You want to treat patients directly, not study the mechanisms behind their treatment from a bench. This degree doesn't carry a clinical licence anywhere we profile. Medicine and nursing lead there directly, and this one doesn't convert into them later without starting a fresh clinical degree.

What the first year is really made of
At many universities it shares lecture theatres with the medical degree for anatomy and biochemistry. The year's real shape is defined by what that overlap leaves out. No clinical placement, no patient contact, and a much heavier laboratory and data-analysis load sitting where medicine would put a ward round. Students expecting a lighter version of medicine are working from the wrong comparison. This is a full, separate laboratory science with its own depth, not medicine minus the clinic.
The catch
The degree looks like a direct route into hospital diagnostic work. In several of the countries we profile, that specific role is a separately regulated profession with its own accreditation on top of this qualification. It isn't an automatic destination for anyone who completes the degree.
The one hard requirement
Biology and chemistry together, not either alone, are assumed from the first term. This sits close enough to the medical curriculum that programmes often borrow its entry requirements almost unchanged.
