This suits you if…
You like the exactness of chemistry: a dose, a compound, an interaction that is either right or wrong. You would rather be the last careful check between a prescription and a patient than the person who wrote it.
Look elsewhere if…
You want direct, ongoing contact with a patient over time, rather than a single careful check at the point a medicine is handed over. Nursing and medicine both give you a continuing relationship with a patient. Pharmacy, built around discrete transactions, generally doesn't.

What the first year is really made of
You will spend far more of the first year in an organic-chemistry lecture theatre than anywhere near a pharmacy counter. That's the reverse of what most applicants picture when they choose the subject. Pharmacology and pharmaceutics build directly on that chemistry rather than replacing it later. So a shaky foundation doesn't stay someone else's problem. It compounds into the second year rather than fading out of the course.
The catch
A growing share of routine dispensing is automated or protocol-driven. That's steadily narrowing the entry-level, community-facing side of the job that draws many applicants in the first place. Clinical and hospital roles generally require further specialisation on top of the base qualification.
The one hard requirement
Chemistry through to the end of school is non-negotiable in every system we cover. Pharmacy is built on it from week one, in a way biology alone can't substitute for.
