Living there

What living here is actually like

Small, quiet and campus-shaped: most of what happens socially happens through the university and through the companies that recruit out of it, which makes it unusually easy to arrive into and unusually narrow if you want anything else. The winter is the same long Ontario winter as Toronto's, with less to do indoors. Toronto is reachable for a day but not for an evening.

How the money works

International tuition is substantial in the same way as the rest of Ontario, and the structural counterweight is real: co-op terms are paid employment, so a meaningful share of the cost is earned back during the degree rather than borrowed against it. Housing is cheaper than Toronto's, though the student market tightens hard around the start of each work-term cycle.Described in shape rather than figures on purpose: rents and salaries move every year and we cannot keep numbers true, but what is expensive and what quietly eats income stays true for far longer.

The language you actually need

English throughout. The co-op interview process is the thing to prepare for rather than any language test — it starts early, runs on a fixed cycle, and rewards people who can talk about their own projects clearly.
