Eindhoven

Life runs on a bicycle, in flat terrain, in wind and rain. That isn't a joke about the weather but a daily reality. Eindhoven is small, modern and organised around its technology employers rather than around tourism: quieter evenings, shorter commutes, and a campus that sits inside the industry instead of beside it. Dutch directness is real and takes adjusting to; people say what they think and consider it respectful.

Non-EU tuition is substantial and is the main cost, unlike Germany. But housing is markedly easier and cheaper here than in Amsterdam, which is the single biggest practical argument for the south. Paid internships in the semiconductor industry are a normal part of an engineering degree rather than a prize.Described in shape rather than figures on purpose: rents and salaries move every year and we cannot keep numbers true, but what is expensive and what quietly eats income stays true for far longer.

English carries the degree and the technology workplaces completely. The industry here is international by necessity. Dutch matters less than in Amsterdam for work and more for social life, because the city is smaller and its non-industry side runs in Dutch.
